So you have started your business blog and written a few posts. If you installed Google Analytics on your site you can track how many visitors you attract to read your posts. But if you don?t think you get enough traffic, how can you promote your blog to get more readers and potential clients to see it?
Even if you regularly update your blog, daily or weekly, you will need to promote it. There is such a tremendous amount of information on the internet now that extra time needs to be spent on promotion of your site; otherwise your site will languish with very few accidental visitors at best and at worst ? no readers.
Ways to market a blog:
- Email ? Every time you send out an email, add your blog address to your email signature. If your email is forwarded then there?s yet another chance to spread the word about your blog.
- Comment ? Find blogs that are related to your industry/business and make useful comments on their posts. When you sign the comment use your blog URL.
- Contests ? These are fun and effective and keep readers coming back for more as everyone likes a chance to win things. Use a prize that is relevant to your industry/business, offer free sessions or free product for the winner.
- Current news ? Keep your blog up-to-date, people love to be kept informed of new events in their industry/business. Be the first to mention a product launch. Using Google alerts and keep informed of news ?just out? about your area of expertise, and be the first to mention the story.
- Interviews ? meet and talk with others in your industry or business. They will have a following and the interview that you write about can be promoted to their followers also. Ensure that your interviewee and interview are pertinent to your business and industry, in the same way that your other blogs are relevant to you and your readers.
- Submit your blog to the blog directories -?An easy way to organise placing your blog on a directory is to first write 2 descriptions, a short one and a long one, in MS Word; so when you submit your blog, you can simply copy and paste to the various directories, removing the need to retype the information.
- Ping your post -?Wordpress may already be set up to ping automatically, but if not ? add to your ping list rpc.pingomatic.com. Ping-o-matic will?receive?and then notify other sites, letting them know you have updated your blog. Try Feedburner Pingshot service, if you are unable to ping direct from your blog.
- RSS subscribe -?Real Simple Syndication ? allows fans to be notified when you post a new blog, when they subscribe in an RSS reader. Fans can sign up with Feedburner, Feedblitz, Google and other readers. If your followers don?t use RSS, try Feedburner and the FD Feedburner Plugin together: they can promote your feed and are really easy to set up.?If you change domain names or your feed URL, you can change your address in Feedburner, then all subscribers will be updated accordingly and you won?t lose any.
- Sociable and Share This -?These two plugins are easy to add to your site and let people share and tell others about your blog.
- Social Networking -?by using TwitterFeed your blogs can be tweeted.?The WordPress Facebook app spreads the word about your blog on your Page(s) and Profile.
Some of the tips may take minutes to set up but they are worth doing, as from then on your blog will be promoted each and every time you write a new post.
