Portage Central/Portage Northern football rematch holds lead down stretch of Kalamazoo's MLive Game of Week poll (with poll)

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The first time Portage Northern and Portage Central squared off this football season, things didn't go as many people planned.

Portage Northern beating Portage Central was entirely possible. The way the Huskies did it, 42-13 in Kalamazoo's MLive.com Game of the Week, is where the surprise factor came into play.

The crosstown rivals are set to square off again in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs this Friday. And, again, the Huskies/Mustangs matchup leads Kalamazoo's MLive Game of the Week poll.

As of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Portage Northern/Portage Central had accounted for 470 of 1,267 total votes in the poll. The first-round matchup from the same Division 2 district, Battle Creek Lakeview at Mattawan, was second with 220 votes. The Division 6 clash between Constantine and Watervliet was third iwth 182 votes.

All 13 first-round games involving Kalamazoo-area teams are included in this week's poll, which will remain open until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
