Houston Police Bicycle Relay Team Bike To California To Help Fight ...

On Tuesday, the Houston Police Department Relay Team left Discovery Green for San Diego, California in efforts to raise awareness about cancer. The trip is approximately 1,900 miles. The team plans on biking to California for seven days in efforts of raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The team is made up of nearly 30 HPD officers, several MD Anderson Cancer Center personnel, a host of leukemia survivors and relatives of patients.

According to the website hpdblog.com, ?Leukemia is the no. 1 child killing disease. Ten times as many adults as children are stricken with leukemia. Lymphoma rates have nearly doubled since the 1970?s. Police officers always want to ?catch a killer? and the Houston Police Department (HPD) Bicycle Relay Team?s goal is to ?arrest these killers? and accelerate The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society?s fight against blood cancers.?

The relay team is scheduled to arrive in San Diego, California on Monday, July 2, 2012. In the past 30 years, relay team participants have raised over $5.2 million for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and have biked over 67,500 miles.
