Spotlight on Victoria Gould | Opendoorz Business Networking

If you think accountants are boring, you?ve not met Victoria Gould. As Opendoorz? newest member, Victoria was invited to a meeting by Kate Mercer, and instantly felt at home amongst other bubbly, switched-on people.

Victoria is founder of Apple Tree, an accountancy firm near Witney. Working with small business owners and start-ups, it?s easy to see why many Oxfordshire businesses entrust their accounts to her.

Her informal, friendly approach knocks spots off the stuffy sterceotype image. In fact, Victoria?s down-to-earth style, mixed with professional expertise, is an important part of her business.

Because she deals with people?s financial situations, Victoria finds the personal touch helps clients open up to her.

This is one aspect that really appealed to Victoria when she chose to leave corporate accounting behind and focus on helping small businesses instead.

?People come before numbers. That?s why I love working with small businesses as they often arrive with a bag of problems which I help solve. As a small business myself, I empathise with someone?s business headaches. And even learn from them. Seeing businesses I work with grow is a huge buzz for me.?

It comes as no surprise to discover Victoria is a popular accountant who mainly attracts clients through referrals. In fact, clients travel from all over Oxfordshire to see her. As one of her clients says:

?I transferred my business accountancy needs to Apple Tree about two years ago. This saved me a considerable amount of time and worry as I know that everything is being looked after properly and professionally ? as well as at a competitive rate. I have come to rely on Victoria and her ability to help at short notice and with a smile. I have recommended Victoria to several clients and friends and they are all pleased with the service she provides.?

Victoria moved to West Oxfordshire from Henley in April 2011 to expand the business, although for two days a week she still works from an office studio in South Oxfordshire.

Now, she lives and works in a fabulous 500 year old house near Witney. With a thatched-roof barn office, complete with duck pond and rural views, Victoria encourages clients to feel relaxed when they visit.

You?re also likely to meet Arnie, Apple Tree?s head receptionist and chief security guard. Usually spotted curled up in a chair or wagging his tail, he?s one of Apple Tree?s most treasured assets. Arnie arrived from a rescue centre two years ago and has never left.

Apart from Arnie, Victoria shares her life with husband Tom. When she?s not working, she loves renovating the house and spending much of the weekend up a ladder!

Since joining Opendoorz, she looks forward to Wednesday afternoons as a time to work on her own business and meet up with other professionals in the area.

Find out more about Victoria?s business on Apple Tree?s website, and follow her @appletaccounts on Twitter. You can always connect with her on LinkedIn as well.
